BE THANKFUL FOR THE LITTLE THINGS
I recently heard a morning exhortation about being thankful, and I was inspired to write this blog. I will use the following two scriptures Paul wrote to the churches in Thessalonica, Ephesus, and provinces in Asia.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
Ephesians 5:20 says, “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Paul lived in the first century and, unlike many of us living in these modern times, experienced many hardships but continued working for God without complaining or displaying a negative attitude. Paul encouraged his readers to be thankful in every situation they may encounter. Even when things are difficult, praise and thankfulness can still be made to God for being with you and enabling you to handle and survive the hard times.
I tend to thank God for the big things that happen in my life, and I often omit to thank Him for the things I take for granted. However, as I stopped today and started to be thankful for these things, I realized I could thank God all day. To help you understand what I mean, let me share my thankful list of little things.
Thankful to God for redeeming from the hand of Satan.
Thankful for the Spirit of Discernment operating in my life.
I have a home in which I can live.
I was able to sleep through the night without any calamities happening.
I had a bed in which I slept.
I woke up in the morning.
I was able to get out of my bed without assistance.
I could think, see, hear, and walk.
I have an indoor bathroom that I can use.
I have hot and cold running water.
I had toothpaste, soap, and towels at my disposal.
I have clothes and shoes to put on.
I had food that I could eat throughout the day.
I have a functioning refrigerator, stove, washing machine, and dryer.
I had a car that I drove to take care of errands.
I was able to drive places and get back home without an accident.
No robbers came nigh my dwelling while I was out.
I was able to turn on my television and watch shows.
Throughout the day, I was able to speak to people on my phone.
My husband, children, grandchildren, and friends are yet alive.
All my body organs are functioning.
I was able to sit at my computer and write this blog.
After reading my list, I am sure you have a list also; if you have not, you can develop and begin to thank God for moving on your behalf.
In closing, let me say I’ve visited several impoverished and undeveloped nations and met with individuals who are unaware of the many conveniences I take for granted. This knowledge makes me even more grateful for all God does for me.
